I would too, but the thing is in reading their website that they are pretty much just sending established Red Cross Volunteers. With a few years under their belts. I will probably still call and volunteer for future disaster relief stuff. Talk to you later man. Alex
it's tragic i know... but they we told to leave... i don't feel sorry for the person that spends $100 on alcohol in town instead of a safe hotel room in the country... in my opinion they new ahead of time and should have acted in the right way... and don't give me any bullshit about the granny in the wheelchair... she had caretakers and they stopped caring... survival of the fittest...
this has been tom crowell for natural selection... it's only natural.
More than 30% of new orleans lived in poverty, a far cry from the glitzy glamorous city promoted during mardi gras. First of all Tom, people don't like to leave their homes, forced or not. Look at where we live, right by the river? I don't see you packing up your shit and moving to higher ground even though the levee could crack and the river flood. I can only agree with you're assanine argument about survival of the fittest to the extent where some of those in poverty could have succeed in escaping poverty and the city, poverty is actually a torrential cycle that is economically unescapable (see me for the charts and graphs on poverty from microeconomics) most of them didn't even have close to enough money to leave. The OTHER fact people don't know is that few people have automobiles in New Orleans, the cost of insurance is way too high, so in addition to being poor, nobody has cars either...makes it kinda hard to escape.. However, the good part is now people who were living in poverty have been saved and transported to new cities across the US, they will have a second chance to work, make a living and survive, hopefully some of them at least will make a new life...
it wasn't survival of the fittest, fittest implies that some of them had a chance, but clearly they did not.... survival of the richest is more like it...
they can get off their fat ass an WALK... and as i said... but you missed it because you never let me finish in text or speech you have to interupt...
THEY WERE WARNED IN ADVANCE!!!
i know poverty is a problem... but them not leaving is apathy... they don't need to buy a car... but they should have valued their life a bit more as well as the lives of the people around them... it is still survival of the fittest... whether that be economically, enviornmentally, or what have you.
and josh... you're poor cause you're lazy too... so am i... but if winona started to flood you'd run to the nearest canoe or bluff... i'm not saying it's not tragic about the levee... but shit man... i would not stay in a town during a HURRICANE!!!... they did NOT listen and now they are DEAD... they trusted technology and not advice... technology failed... as it is known to constantly do.
my homeless friend ben would agree... if you might die and don't have a car...
FUCKING HITCHHIKE YOU STUPID MOTHER FUCKER!!!
Poverty is a problem because people (whom i've helped at homeless shelters and talked to!) lose hope and get self-esteem problems... not that they don't want a job, home, etc... but they lose their dreams and ambitions... secondly homeless are sometimes the result of a fire or natural disaster... again i'm not insulting them over losing a home... third, many under the poverty line and in homeless shelters are clinically insane and can not work period...
I INSULT THE DUMBASSES THAT WERE TOLD AND DIDN'T LISTEN!!! AND THOSE THAT RANOUT ON THEIR FAMILY, FRIENDS, WARDS, AND NEIGHBORS!!!
and for those who had no chance... cry me a fucking river... oh wait... that isn't needed... the elderly die... suprised one did it on camera?... call kevorkian... the shit ain't new.
speaking of death... what the fuck is up with you dumbasses believing it's a bad thing?
think you're going to hell?
i don't know about anything past death except decay... i could guess, i could philosophize... but point is DEATH HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN END TO EARTHLY SUFFERING.
grandma died... would you rather her hooked up to air barely able to breath let alone sit straight and eat by herself... she's at peace now... BE HAPPY FOR HER!
oh and as for the mississippi... that's why i live in on the 2nd story and near easy access to a roof... but then again... i would FUCKING LEAVE WHEN ASKED TO!!!!
to hell in a handbasket with you josh... get smart and walk... you're too damn used to driviing my car so i must reeducate you on what those two lumps of flesh are coming down from your hips... they're legs... they move people, like yourself, around from point a to point b... to quote DOGMA, "Back in the day we used to walk everywhere. You ever hear of a fat apostle?"
do you think writing your reply in more caps makes your point bigger or more important?
you can think what you want, but imo that's a disgracefull way to disrespect the lives of thousands of people who couldn't walk, drive, hitchike or leave, not neccessarily because the didn't have the means so much as a way to do it..
elderly, children, living in poverty and starving, no cars, no other homes, do you think they can just walk a hundred miles without food or water? might as well ask them to sprout wings and fly...
don't disrespect the people who died because 'you' think they should be better than what they are in life or have done more...they've never had opportunities like you and i have...
